However vast the bureaucracy, the president is responsible, correctly--respondeat superior, the buck stops here. Admittedly there is the problem of "the permanent government": do the Democrats now want to step back from the Civil Service Act, now that they see the problem? No, I thought not.

The presidents whole approach to governing has been, at best, half-vast.

Metaphor alert.

"Wake up President Obama while sufficiwnt electricity remains for you to smell the coffee.A surgical strike to prevent North Korean development of an ICBM has never been more urgent.

(1) If I could wake up President Obama, I would already have done so.
(2) It might surprise you how little electricity it requires for me to smell the coffee. However, it takes a noticeable amount to *heat* the coffee.
(3) I think North Korean development of an ICBM would go on even if all the North Korean surgeons went on strike.

"I have not done anything wrong" and we in Australia would like to say "pull the other one". As a form of defense, such a statement in fact indicates that the person is guilty of something.

There is a gulf between Nixon and Obama because by comparison, Nixon did nothing wrong. Even his petty attempts to use the IRS on his political enemies were a failure. In other areas of being Commander in Chief and a Statesman, Nixon was head and shoulders over Obama in every possible way... and yes I point to the opening up of relations with China via Nixon's ability to have discussions with Mao as one of his greatest achievements.

Nixon did some crooked things, but he was never as corrupt as Obama. He did not abandon his Ambassadors and allow the enemy to kill them. He also did not declare a war that is still raging to have ended. Nixon had to make decisions that went against his religious convictions because he loved the USA. Can the same be said about Obama? I think not.
