New York Mayor, Michael R. Bloomberg, nudger-in-chief for New York City, received a well-directed shove yesterday from New York Supreme Justice, Milton Tangling in Manhattan. The interfering Mayor – chief panderer to the politically correct New York electorate that he so assiduously woos – was confronted by a judge who understands the nature of individual liberty.
The New York Nanny’s ban on big sugary sodas fell flat – decarbonated if you will – after the judge invalidated the law. In essence, the judge advised the Mayor that his attack on over-blown bellies was itself over-blown. Perhaps the Mayor’s brain was afflicted by a low sugar count.
Mayor Bloomberg may now be coming down from a low-sugar high. His campaign against individual liberty has extended well beyond soda regulations. He has effectively imposed his own preferences on where New Yorkers can inhale nicotine, on where they can consume trans fats, and on where they can eat without reading out the calories of every mouthful of food and drink. Given his druthers, Mayor Goldberg would have City cameras in every bedroom in every apartment in Manhattan.
Can you even imagine, dear Readers, what an intolerable meddlesome bore this dreadful man must be. Whom would you prefer to be seated next to at any dinner party, Winston Churchill or Michael Bloomberg? Give me cigar-smoke and the aroma of cognac anytime rather than the halitosis of a sugar-deprived, politically-correct purified-water drinking prude!
